How to save a ChatGPT chat as PDF
- Export your data from ChatGPT (Settings → Data controls → Export data) and download the ZIP from the email.
- Drop the ZIP above and open the conversation you need (use search to find it).
- Click PDF. Your browser's print dialog opens — choose Save as PDF as the printer.
What the PDF looks like
- The chat title, date and model at the top; each message labelled You or ChatGPT with its time.
- Formatted answers: headings, lists, tables and syntax-preserving code blocks that wrap instead of getting cut off.
- Images you uploaded and pictures generated in the chat, embedded in place.
- No sidebar, buttons or ads — only the conversation.
PDF vs. the ChatGPT share link
A share link depends on your account and can be revoked; a PDF is a permanent, offline copy you can attach to an email, a ticket or a thesis appendix. For an editable copy, use Word or Markdown instead.
Private by design
Chat history is personal: work notes, health questions, drafts. This viewer reads the export file inside your browser tab with JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and closing the tab forgets everything. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded.
Frequently asked questions
Can I save a ChatGPT chat as PDF without the data export?
You can print the chat page from your browser, but the ChatGPT interface often cuts long answers and code. Exporting your data gives you the full text of every chat and a clean layout here.
Do I need to install a browser extension?
No. This is a web page; the PDF is produced by your browser's own print-to-PDF.
Can I turn many chats into PDFs at once?
Browsers print one document at a time. For many chats, use Export many chats at once → HTML or Word files, and print the ones you need.
Is it safe to open my chat export here?
Yes. The file is read locally by your browser; it is never sent to a server. The site has no login and stores nothing about your chats.
